What it's like to have an alpine forest across the street

The view from my bus stop at sunset

The world's most adorable car. Did somebody leave this here for me?

And there is a mid-size grocery store 750 feet from home. The reason I didn't find it sooner is that it involves hiking through this mini-alpine forest, up and down 40 degree slopes. The change in elevation is at least 500 feet. Home, of course, lies at the crest of the summit.

Here is the challenge: You want a slice of watermelon. Yes. Would you rather (1) wait for the bus 5-10 minutes, ride it for 10 minutes, shop, wait and return or (2) hike 10 minutes down a rocky path, shop and climb back up the mountain with the 10 other things you bought besides watermelon.

The next aspect to consider: If you go outside, you are going to sweat. Would you rather (1) sweat sitting on a bus or (2) sweat hiking through a forest and developing calf muscles worthy of a World Cup soccer star. I can't decide.
